Sometimes, I find lakes in very interesting and special places. These times, it looks like everything is perfect. The water and the land is beautiful too. But let's avoid the „in medias res” begining. This story started at spring, when we planned our holiday. We tryed to find a place for rest, and nothing more! Finaly we choose Hotel Orchidea at Tengelic here in Hungary. The nice wellness hotel was placed near a wonderful fishing lake. It was strongly inviting.

Perfect place for some rest.

On the first day we started fishing with the pole, to see, what we have here. Rudds and bleaks were coming continuously. The ideal lenght of the pole was around 4 yards, those ones were easy to handle next to the coast plants. Unfortunately we were not able to reach the middle of the lake, where the bigger fishes stayed in the warm weather. I decided, that I will try to reach them with my match rod.

The lake was strongly impressed me like a true wild water.

I made the rig according to the water and the fishes. I choose the Competition Match. It is a soft characteristic rod (but mostly fast) with medium-light action. I did not have to worry - when I have a hitable lift – that I will hurt the mouth of the fishes with a hard hookset. I would have a greater chance for it using a fast, hard action rod.

My reel was the Applause from Ryobi in size 30. You must be curious, why did I use a spinning reel for match fishing? The answer is very simple, I use it because its reliability and fineness made it very versatile. It comes with two pools, we can load the first with spinning line and the second one with thin one for feeder or float fishing. The drag is smooth but strong.

I need just 10 minutes for a perfect mess.

Appropriate groundbait.

Avoid talking too much, I made a single figure about my rig. Everybody can make it (see below).

Simple, but effective

I used the Carp Expert Bream groundbait, But I got a surprise, I put two type of groundbaits into my bag, the Golden and the Red Carp. But the liquid flavour was the right one. I had no choice I mixed the Golden Carp with the Bream liquid flavour and with some sweetcorn. Maybe both the carps and breams would like the taste and the smell of it. Trough the morning, I did not catch any carp, but I net some beautiful breams. As I see, this is how things are working for me. I catch breams with carp groundbait and carp like my bream groundbait!

If you use fixfloat attachment, you must put at least 5 shots on the main line as main lead weight.

Fortunately we choose thh best week in the summer for the holiday, the weather was perfect. Fishing in those good conditions was great after we had lot of rainy, cloudy days, I realy enjoyed to wear shorts. I didnt wait much until the first takes, the small fishes were coming one after the other. All the rudds took the half corn bait or the 3 piece pinkie on the hook, which was able to snap it. The small bread ball was also a successful hookbait. I last used it in my childhood. Good to know that something never changes.

Of course, the inside is the same.

I shot the balls frequently to maintain the interest of the fishes, one or two ball in every quarter to collect the fishes in one place before me. The bigger ones were coming after one and a half hours. The takes were much more sensitive, I must concentrate very hard to the float tip, harder than the smaller fishes. The best inviting bait is the eating fish group, this statement was absolutely true this time. The flavours can collect the fishes from some yards but the voice of feeding can be heard from greater distances (I think from the farthest point of the lake, which was quite small).

This was a typical rudd, to be honest it looked like the water had boiled around the bailing in.

We forgot all of our problems, left behind us when arrived to this beautiful land.

They were coming one of the other.

The reel is a high quality product. It's durability and the perfect line profile shows this.

At the end, athough we did not catch any big fish, the trip was wonderful. It was wonderful to spend some peacefull days, when we left the hotel I felt as if we would have been replaced completely. If somebody travells with the children, it can be complicated to take the complete fishing equipment, but there is always some place for a simple pole and for some rigs. Belive me, we can get great life experiences not just for us, but for our children too!
