One of the shiny Saturday afternoon of October, my friend told me the following “Let's go fishing for pike!” It was some days after I decided to try catching predators. I decided some days before this that I will try myself in spinning, but the session was planned to another time. “Two hours, not more!” I cant say a 'no'.
The nice weather and the beautiful creek calling me to try out some techniques |
I caught pike or perch only with pole and feeder, never spinning. The bait was various, maggots, pellets and corn... Now I want to catch them by spinning, with a twister I guess, or something, which is not a..., so I want to catch them with predator bait! First I choose a rod for the adventure, the ET Pike Trio. First of all, it was extremely short. I use mostly match or feeder rods around 13 feet or longer. This rod was just 10 feet, very light and versatile. And it was easy to take as it has 3 sections. It is odd from a spinning rod, but it was handy to me!
Good and cheep reel is the GB400F, I like that it is quite light. | The profile of the line is also good, it was easy to cast to greater distance, if it was needed. |
I also had a Gold Star twister set. I used a Kamasaki GB400F type reel. By the truth, I wasn't 100 percent sure that spinning will be one of my favorite technique, so I choose the reel wisely. I know that I can widely use a size 40 front drag reel for feeder fishing and floating as well.
This is a simple double overhand loop before... | ...and after finishing. I used this for the trace wire |
Quick packing and the go to the water. I was standing next to the creek. I was very excited. I cast my first twister to the right direction (more or less). After 10 minutes, I grumbled that there is no fish in the water, or it is too cold, etc. While I was thinking on this, I heard some splashes from the left, down on the water, just below the reed in the other waterfront of the creek.
This was the first pike of my life. I caught it using a margin pole in the winter. | Now I try the red-white twister first. |
“It was a take!” - I thought and I cast my bait to that direction. I reeled up the line very slowly, I yanked little on it, as I saw from the professionals. And yes, I had my first snag. I cant belive it! There were several snags in the water, branches, roots and fishes too. When I started casting, I knew that I lost some twisters today, I was sure in this. But this time, my snag was a pike. He pulled the line from the spool (I lost several yards before I stopped him).
My rod was the Pike Trio | Technical details |
It was great to fight with my first pike. He was stronger and wilder than my favorite roaches and breams on the float. Every moment were exciting, I get a really great experience. I was a little bit sad, when it finished. The 0.25 diameter mainline and the precise reel and rod wins the battle form me quickly. I had the small pike in my hand within minutes. He didn't knew that it is not necessary to fight for the last, I took him back to the water after taking some nice picture for proof. Than he went back to the chill water.
My first pike, caught by spinning! | There were some fellow anglers on the creek, to enjoy the last good days of the Fall |
I continued casting enthusiastically from my firs successes. I try every reednode, every falled tree, while I was thinking on spinning. I would had been tried this long time ago. I watched all the fellow anglers, how they use their rod, how they move it, to move the bait as well below the water surface and how they wint the line onto the spool.
I used these baits only. | I caught an other pike in the s ummer with feeder. He likes the pellets. |
There are many-many small tips and tricks to learn about spinning. I like the simplicity of this technique. I can gho and just cast some if I have one or two hours but no more and I need only one rod, a reel, some bait and just a few other triflets.
After one unsuccessful hour, I changed the bait to this one | I gave a try on this place for a while |
I didn't have any other takes during that afternoon for my red-white twister. I cant catch any of them, even I tried some places trough several hundred yard section of the creek. The sun descended to the horizon slowly, everything was gold-coloured around mewhile I was watching the yellow leaves falling down from the trees.
I say good by with this picture to the creek |
To be honest it was a short but beautifull day! I went back to the carr with great experiences. I am sure I will go back to this small creek, maybe I will met with my first small pike next to the reeds. I would appreciate it, I hope he will be bigger and stronger. He shouldn't afraid from me!

Under the colorful coat of this rod, you find a true workhorse. It is indeed a slim rod made of IM8 carbon with enough power in reserve. The neoprene handle is a delight to touch. During fishing, the rod becomes your elongated forearm, which helps you detect every shy bite and vibration of your lure. Although it is a strong fishing rod, it is not heavy at all. Yes, I am talking about the latest spinning rod family of Energo Team, namely, Wizard Classic Jig and Drop Shot rods. The...
In my previous article, I mentioned that Drop Shot rods are one of my favorites, and their performance cannot be overestimated. This might sound biased, but trust me; I know what I’m talking about. After months of using these rods, I can safely say that they satisfy all my needs when it comes to ultra light spinning. Fishing with little soft baits cannot be more enjoyable, and, of course, let’s not forget about wobblers either. I’m not exaggerating –...
t Nowadays, it is not easy for a new Bolognese rod to make a name for itself. It should be either at a reasonable price or of outstanding quality to win anglers’ sympathy. Unfortunately, these two criteria rarely meet. Energo Team’s Rubin Bolo has been widely used for years not just by Hungarian but foreign anglers, too. However, ET Nase Bolo, which made its debut in spring 2015, is considered a novelty. Rubin Bolo is a real workhorse. Nase Bolo,...
This year was full of surprises for devoted bolognese anglers. As I’m a bolognese angler too, I feel lucky to have got to know two excellent bolognese rods within six months. We have just introduced Nase Bolo, and now we have another rod that makes its debut. I can safely say that this is a magnificient rod too. Its price category reflects its unique features. If I had to rank Energo Team’s rods I would definitely put Blade-Tanaka-Nase bolognese rods to the first three...
