Wizard Monster – The Classic Koós Catfish Rig
Who hasn’t heard of Ferenc Koós, the legendary Hungarian catfish angler?
This rig was developed together with him — a straightforward, minimalist solution for professional catfish anglers.
Following his well-known “less is more” philosophy, Ferenc Koós designed this rig with a classic knot style.
It’s a double-hook, adjustable braided leader.
Construction: Swivel – braided leader line – rattle – 2 hooks.
This rig is primarily designed for break-line and CatMagnet techniques, and is also excellent for longer stupeks (such as our 90 cm version).
We recommend it for fishing with a single livebait. Insert the main hook under the dorsal spine using a baiting needle, so the baitfish can move more naturally on the rig. The smaller assist hook can be placed in the front fin or left hanging freely beside the bait.
If the baitfish is small and the distance between the main and assist hook is too long, first place the main hook, then wrap the excess braided line around the shank of the main hook until the desired length is reached, and finally attach the smaller hook.
For the best hooking efficiency, we recommend placing the two hooks in opposite directions on the baitfish, as this can significantly increase the chance of a successful hookset.
It is also suitable for soft-bodied baits like worms and leeches — in this case, the lower assist hook is the most effective place for mounting.
Thanks to the built-in rattle, the rig generates strong underwater sound, attracting fish and ensuring more confident bites.
