Fishing for silverfish at Fehérvárcsurgó

At the celebration day of work, I went to my favorite fishing lake, to Fehérvárcsurgó. The whole lake’s water surface is around 140 hectare depending on the actual level of the water. This lake owns really beautiful fishes, easy to catch catfish (the lake is really famous about its population), walleye, great carps and all type of silverfish. Today, I wanted to catch these small species, to spend some great hours here. The weather looked great with some clouds only, it was a nice late spring day for fishing!

The lake is beautiful today as always!

I get up early to arrive to the water in time. I was really surprised, that the east side of the lake is an extremely popular place! There was only one free space at the end of the bank at seven o’clock in the morning. It was a good experience for the future. Let’s check the groundbait I used this time. I mixed it last evening, to be honest, I don’t like to do it on the bank, because I want fishing, not cooking there. I chose a fine one directly for silverfish, the Bream from Elite serie of Tímár Mix. I like it because it is easy to mix it, it opens quickly and has great gingerbread smell. And because fishes likes it as well I think.

The first take came after two minutes of the first casting

The mixed groundbait and the balls shows that the Elite Bream is a really dense food for the breams

It opens right after putting it to the water

Few minutes ago, it falls to pieces

Fishing for silverfish needs fine grounbait, but fine rods also. I used my favorite Competition Feeder and Picker. These are easy to use rods with good spine, and good sensitivity. I use them long time ago. To be frank, I used several rods over the years, but this two were different. Best of all times for fishing light! To the shorter one, I put a Ryobi Applause, to the feeder, the Lasefish LFRD. Both were in size 30. It is strange to use both rear and front drag reels in the same time, I was confused always, where do I have to set the drag power. To be honest I don’t use rear drags so often, because I had some bad experiences earlier. Fortunately, this reel confuted my bad feelings completely. It has fast and fine brake, which do not adhere.

This beautiful bream also liked my groundbait

The miracle from japan engineers, the Ryobi Applause

But the Laserfish is good as well

I used the most simple and most sensitive rig. It is my favorite. A single free running feeder cage was put on the main line, below it I put a small swivel and that’s all. I knot the 40 cm long 0.12 hookline with number 18 Drennan fine match hook. This is an absolute sensitive rig, I like it most. The most cautious takes, the most little movements can be detected with it. The size of the hook is important as well. The size 18 Fine match is the perfect hook to catch the smaller fishes, it can hold one single maggot or two as well without any problem, or we can use the combination of maggot and pinkies. It is strong enough to hold a half kilogram bream or crucian carp, but a small rudd can take it easily. So it is a true “Jolly Joker”for fishing silverfish.

The 3 meter long Competition picker
is a very good rod for fishing silverfish

While the 3.60 meter long Competition feeder
is a good choice for carps as well

The rings like a float rod on the feeder...

...and on the picker also.

Useful accessary

I got the first and biggest problem at the begin of the fishing session, I had a big seaweed field in front of me, as it can be seen on the pictures. I felt that it will be easy to catch the take but I will lost more fishes in the seaweed. Unfortunately I lost several good fishes in the seaweed through the day. They just turn around at the edge of the field and I lost them fast. It is hard to fish in such a place, but at the end, this is a wild water, so seaweed is ok as it is. To be frank if I was able to pull them to the surface before the field to get some fresh air, than they became dizzy, and it was easy to pull them through the surface of the seaweed. Of course, I found this out at the end of the session. Unfortunately.

The sensitive tip is waiting

For the take

The morning was great, while I caught more and more bream. They had to wait for the photograph at the end of the session. I was happy when I met with the fishguard on the bank. He checked my fishing permit without any problem. To be honest, I like fishguards, because somebody watch the water and I can get the latest news about favorite groundbaits and catches. I think, a good fishguard is a real treasure.

This was the seaweed field in my place

The groundbait was attractive for spawns as well

Around ten o’clock in the morning, something strange happened to me, somehow all the silverfish gone. I had a great though than, carps arrived maybe? I changed my hooklenght, hook and bait on it. I was sure in my divination and luck. However this day was not my luckiest one. I spent one hour to catch the carp without any success, so after some time, I turn back to the long hooklenght fishing. Fortunately the silverfish came back and I started to catch them smoothly and continuously. The feeder rods are so sensitive, therefore I can see the fail takes as well, when the fishes are swimming to the line, but with some experience, it is easy to differentiate the fail takes and the true ones. But failed ones are important as well, because it is easy to see it the fishes are in our bailing-in, just don’t want to take our bait. In these times, I always change something on the hook, the hooklenght or on the bait.

A guest again, a beautiful bream

The cautious takes needs the small hook and long hooklink

In the last few hours, I caught he small size silverfish one by one. The bigger fishes don’t want to take my bait, or there wasn’t enough space on the bailing-in, or they tricked me at the edge of the seaweed. Maybe it would be better to use a biger hook, size 14 for example. I may had less takes but more bigger fishes at the end of the session. On that particular day,the fun was more important for me than the overall weight. Fishing on this lake is always a great experience for me. The landscape is beautiful, the weather was great and I found the silverfish population really exiting in the water. I want to encourage everybody, for visiting this lake sometimes. He or she will not regret,I promise!

A Perfect Match: ET Wizard Classic 2,10 and Wizard Spin 3000
Published: 2015. October 19. | Source: Halmos Mihály | News

Under the colorful coat of this rod, you find a true workhorse. It is indeed a slim rod made of IM8 carbon with enough power in reserve. The neoprene handle is a delight to touch. During fishing, the rod becomes your elongated forearm, which helps you detect every shy bite and vibration of your lure. Although it is a strong fishing rod, it is not heavy at all. Yes, I am talking about the latest spinning rod family of Energo Team, namely, Wizard Classic Jig and Drop Shot rods. The...

Ultra Light Dream: ET Wizard Drop Shot Spinning Rod and Wizard Spin Reel

In my previous article, I mentioned that Drop Shot rods are one of my favorites, and their performance cannot be overestimated. This might sound biased, but trust me; I know what I’m talking about. After months of using these rods, I can safely say that they satisfy all my needs when it comes to ultra light spinning. Fishing with little soft baits cannot be more enjoyable, and, of course, let’s not forget about wobblers either. I’m not exaggerating –...

Learning more about Nase and Rubin Bolo Rods
Published: 2015. October 19. | Source: Halmos Mihály | News

t Nowadays, it is not easy for a new Bolognese rod to make a name for itself. It should be either at a reasonable price or of outstanding quality to win anglers’ sympathy. Unfortunately, these two criteria rarely meet. Energo Team’s Rubin Bolo has been widely used for years not just by Hungarian but foreign anglers, too. However, ET Nase Bolo, which made its debut in spring 2015, is considered a novelty.   Rubin Bolo is a real workhorse. Nase Bolo,...

Bolognese again! The New Tanaka Bolognese has Arrived

This year was full of surprises for devoted bolognese anglers. As I’m a bolognese angler too, I feel lucky to have got to know two excellent bolognese rods within six months. We have just introduced Nase Bolo, and now we have another rod that makes its debut. I can safely say that this is a magnificient rod too. Its price category reflects its unique features.  If I had to rank Energo Team’s rods I would definitely put Blade-Tanaka-Nase bolognese rods to the first three...
